RAY WILKINS ADVISES KLOPP TO BUY PLAYERS

Ray Wilkins opines that Premier League side Liverpool must buy players if they want to remain competitive next term.

He advised manager Jurgen Klopp to get talented players that fit right into their roles ahead of their Champions League show next term.

Alberto Moreno started in left back role but after poor performances, he was dropped and James Milner took over. Wilkins said Milner did well in an unfamiliar role but asked that the star be returned to the wide role or the midfield.

Wilkins says the player must be replaced is Liverpol want to perform well in the league and on the continent. (more…)

KLOPP HAS NO FEARS OVER MILNER’S SPOT KICKS

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he never has any fear about James Milner not converting penalty kicks even though he looks away each time.

The German coach looked away, as expected, when the right back stood up to take the kick in the last game against Manchester United.

The experienced midfielder, who switched roles excellently this term, is yet to lose a penalty kick this term. His five goals in the Premier League this campaign have been from spot kicks and he has not faltered.

“Did I watch the penalty shoot-out at Wembley? Probably not. I don’t look at Penalties too often. I would say that in general I’m not superstitious but when we shoot the penalties it probably says something completely different,” Klopp said of Reds loss to the Red Devils in the last EFL Cup final.

“With Milly, it’s no problem. I don’t need to watch, I just enjoy the noise after he has scored. All good,” Klopp added. (more…)

MILNER SUPPORTS HENDERSON

James Milner believes Jordan Henderson can be a “great leader” for England having been named captain for Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier in Slovenia.

The Interim manager, Gareth Southgate benched Wayne Rooney for the match after their Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Malta at Wembley, with Henderson set to deputize.

The 30-year old Liverpool’s vice-captain who retired international footballer after England’s flop at Euro 2016, said Henderson deserves to captain the Three Lions.

“It is amazing and fully deserved,” Milner told Liverpool’s official website. “He is a top player with a top attitude, he is a great captain here – obviously I have played under him for the last year. Last year times were tough for him when he was injured and desperate to be out on the field, but he was a great leader even when he wasn’t playing, which isn’t the easiest thing to do.

“He has shown what a good captain he is really. When things aren’t going well for you, that’s when your strengths come through as a captain. He showed that last year and obviously this year on the field he has been playing amazingly. He will be a great leader for England as well.”

JAMES MILNER: “WE SEEM TO BE IN RHYTHM AT THE MOMENT”

English International, James Milner, said that his current team Liverpool are in a great place since finding rhythm.

The 30-year old Ex-Manchester City central midfielder moved to Anfield this season on a free transfer and has gradually blended with the team.

The player is responsible for corners and has been flopping of late that even coach Jürgen Klopp commented using a strong word. However, his crossing from open play, however, is in a completely different league. It was his peach of a centre that Dejan Lovren stuck away in stoppage time to invite bedlam to break out and the Liverpool captain’s support play broke Everton’s resistance with crosses from the left and right wings leading to two goals in quick succession at the end of the first half.

On Klopp, Milner told the club website:

“The manager’s style is a bit more second nature than it was a few months ago, we know how he wants to play and everyone is on the same page. I think you can see that in the performances. (more…)
