TITLE ALMOST OVER

The Premier league title race is almost over after Manchester City suffered a 3-1 defeat against Tottenham during the weekend. This defeat gives Manchester United the opportunity to win the title if they manage victory against Aston Villa in their match. Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini was astonished with the way his team suffered a defeat in the match especially considering that they were leading with only 25 min to go. However, City suffered the embarrassment of conceding three goals in the space of just 6 min to lose the match.

After the match, Mancini was a loss to explain the reason for suffering such a defeat. He blamed the attitude of the players in the second half of the match. Clint Dempsey equalised for Tottenham and it did not take long for the London team to take the advantage. A goal from Jermain Defoe helped them take a 2-1 lead, while Gareth Bale – who has been nominated for the PFA player of the year award – scored the third goal of the match to secure all three points for the team. This was a massive boost for Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas, as his team are currently chasing a top four spot.

Mancini said after the match that United will be worthy winners of the title.

“It is incredible that we lost this game because we had everything under control for 80 minutes. We had a lot of chances to score a second goal, but this is football. If you don’t close the game it can happen like today. The championship was finished three or four weeks ago. They deserve to win this championship. They are not a better team but they deserve to win this title because we lost a lot of points in games we probably didn’t deserve to lose,” said Mancini.

CITY ENDS UP DRAWING

The Premier League match played between Manchester City and Liverpool at Etihad Stadium on Sunday has ended in a draw. There were 4 goals scored in the match, a couple by each team. This draw has increased the points gap between City and United. Now, City has fallen 9 points behind the Red Devils.

Yesterday, United secured win over Fulham and got ahead by 10 points. City needed a victory against Liverpool to bring the deficit back to 7 points, but, they failed in doing so. However, City is still at no. 2 in the points table with 53 points in 25 matches.

It was really a very exciting match. Both the teams fought hard and the pendulum kept swinging from one side to other throughout the match.

This draw took Liverpool to no. 7 in the points table. The Reds have played 25 matches in the tournament so far out of which they have won 9 and lost 7. The remaining 9 matches have ended in draws.

Manchester City took the lead in the 23rd minute of the match with the goal of Edin Dzeko. David Silva got rid of a couple of players and then, passed the ball to James Milner who gave a low cross to Dzeko. Dzeko made no mistake and tapped the ball home to give his team the lead.

The scores got equalized just a few minutes later. Daniel Sturridge scored the equalizer for the Reds. It was Steven Gerrard who assisted the goal.

Gerrard took his team ahead by putting the ball into the net with a great volley in the 73rd minute of the match, but, Liverpool’s lead lasted for only 5 minutes. In the 78th minute, Sergio Aguero found the net from an awkward angle and the score became 2-2. There were no more goals scored in the remaining time and the teams had to share points.

Manchester City’s next match will be a Premier League clash against Southampton on 9th of February at St. Mary’s stadium.

MILNER WANTS RECOVERY

The Manchester City midfielder James Milner has said that he wants the team to recover from the 1-0 defeat at the hands of Sunderland as soon as possible. Manchester City have fallen seven points behind leaders Manchester United after the latest defeat – a 1-0 score against Sunderland. This was the third consecutive season in which City have suffered a defeat at the Stadium of Light. They fell to a solitary goal from the former City midfielder Adam Johnson, who was sold by Mancini only in the summer. This defeat was followed up after the 3-1 win over Newcastle last weekend in which City just managed to close the gap to 4 points.

Now, they have to work even harder in order to reduce the gap. Milner has said that he feels that the team is improving all the time and he expects better performances in the future. He has said that it is extremely important that they maintain the confidence irrespective of the results. He has said that being the champions makes them the attention for all the clubs, who will be setting out to beat them at any cost. Milner, though, has said that this attitude amongst the other clubs also brings in a siege mentality within Manchester City.

“We need to keep improving as a team. I think the best is yet to come this season and let’s hope we can keep moving forward. When you’re at the top and you’re champions, people want to knock you off that pedestal and they’ll try anything whether it’s on the field or off the field. They are things you learn to deal with. It definitely brings you closer together when everyone outside is against you. You have that siege mentality and put that to good use,” said Milner after the Newcastle match.

MILNER RULED OUT

The Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has said that the England midfielder James Milner is not likely to be part of the squad that will face Everton during the weekend. This is an extremely crucial match for City given that Everton were the last team to beat them at the Etihad stadium almost 2 years ago. The 26-year-old has been one of the first-team regulars under Roberto Mancini, but he has suffered an injury that will keep him out of this match. Milner suffered the hamstring injury in the 2-0 win over Wigan last weekend.

He has not recovered sufficiently in time to face Everton, who are looking to finish in the top four this season. The midfielder is likely to return to the first-team back in time for the Manchester derby next weekend according to Mancini. This is an extremely crucial game given that United are likely to come into this match with a three-point advantage, but in order to ensure that the gap remains three points before the start of the match, City need to win their match in hand against Everton. It will certainly be an extremely difficult match according to Mancini, who has been under pressure in recent weeks following the Champions League exit from the group stages itself.

“James is out for tomorrow. We will try to recover him for next Sunday but we don’t know. It is normal. He played against Chelsea and played very well. He came back after injury, now he played 20 minutes and had a hamstring (injury). We are disappointed because James was in good form in this moment,” said the City manager ahead of Everton match. Milner was one of the scorers in the match against Wigan last weekend, but went off injured immediately after scoring. City are unbeaten so far this season.
