Liverpool are set to host Arsenal at Anfield early in the season.

The Premier League giants would clash in week 3 after both having eventful starts to the new term. Arsenal overturned a deficit to post a hard fought win against Leicester City in the season opener but stumbled against Stoke City. Liverpool, at their end, played a 3-3 draw against Watford and then fought hard to get a 1-0 win in their second game.

Arsene Wenger would be on the focal point, after a slow start to the new campaign. The Frenchman insisted on keeping the bulk of his top players and even added more, including record signing Alexandre Lacazette. After 13 years of disappointment, the fans want a serious challenge for the title if they don’t eventually clinch it. Starting this way is not a good show of what’s to come.

Former Hull player Andrew Robertson and impressive youngster Trent Alexander-Arnold are likely to start in wingback. There’s Joe Gomez incase Arnold does not beat his fitness concerns. (more…)

KLOPP HAS NO FEARS OVER MILNER’S SPOT KICKS

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he never has any fear about James Milner not converting penalty kicks even though he looks away each time.

The German coach looked away, as expected, when the right back stood up to take the kick in the last game against Manchester United.

The experienced midfielder, who switched roles excellently this term, is yet to lose a penalty kick this term. His five goals in the Premier League this campaign have been from spot kicks and he has not faltered.

“Did I watch the penalty shoot-out at Wembley? Probably not. I don’t look at Penalties too often. I would say that in general I’m not superstitious but when we shoot the penalties it probably says something completely different,” Klopp said of Reds loss to the Red Devils in the last EFL Cup final.

“With Milly, it’s no problem. I don’t need to watch, I just enjoy the noise after he has scored. All good,” Klopp added. (more…)

After 14 years, Milner faced his old side Leeds in the EFL quarterfinal as a Reds star, playing a different role where the vice captain witnessed Ben Woodburn become Liverpool’s youngest ever goalscorer.

“He was a little spotty-faced kid who had a lot of energy. He was a good crosser of the ball, he as fast and he kept his head down. You noticed him on the pitch but you didn’t really notice him off it. He wasn’t a flash kid. He just anted to play football,” Milner’s former teammates Michael Duberry said.

MILNER SUPPORTS HENDERSON

James Milner believes Jordan Henderson can be a “great leader” for England having been named captain for Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier in Slovenia.

The 30-year old Liverpool’s vice-captain who retired international footballer after England’s flop at Euro 2016, said Henderson deserves to captain the Three Lions.

“It is amazing and fully deserved,” Milner told Liverpool’s official website. “He is a top player with a top attitude, he is a great captain here – obviously I have played under him for the last year. Last year times were tough for him when he was injured and desperate to be out on the field, but he was a great leader even when he wasn’t playing, which isn’t the easiest thing to do.

“He has shown what a good captain he is really. When things aren’t going well for you, that’s when your strengths come through as a captain. He showed that last year and obviously this year on the field he has been playing amazingly. He will be a great leader for England as well.”
