Luis Figo, the Portugal legend, has decided to throw his hat for the FIFA chairmanship and he has been getting supported by a lot of people in his country.
However, it’s almost impossible for Figo to displace the current chairman Sepp Blatter from his post.
Blatter has such a strong grip at FIFA at the moment and it’s believed that he would win hands down again.
Apart from Blatter and Figo, there are three other candidates as well who are contesting for the biggest post in the World of Football.
According to Figo, he has the backing of as many as 5 Football Associations which makes him an eligible candidate for the elections.
Figo is in Football administration for quite a bit of time, but, so far, he hasn’t been able to do any significant job.
He was a part of the committee that had placed bid on behalf of Portugal and Spain for the hosting rights of World Cup 2022
The committee failed to convince the FIFA officials and the hosting rights eventually went to Qatar.
So, he has not been that successful in administrative stuffs.
But, the FIFA elections of this year might be a breakthrough for Figo, the Football administrator.
If the 42-year old does get elected as chairman of the Governing body of World Football, it would be nothing short of a miracle.
The Portugal Association released a statement yesterday about Figo’s candidature.
That statement read, “It’s a matter of pride for us that Luis is contesting for the chairman post. We give him our complete support.”
Figo is one of the only three players that have played more than 100 matches for the Portugal national side. He played 127 to be precise and scored 32 goals. His international career was 15-year long.
